In the 2018 edition of ITIJ’s Cost Containment review, author Mandy Langfield details what skyrocketing medical costs mean to travel and health insurers who are increasingly exposed to catastrophic claims from their members. Global Excel contributed to the article with the highlights of our catastrophic claims unit experiences and we shared some of the elements we look for in medical case management. 
PartnerRe Health analyzed claims trends between 2007 and 2012 and found there was an increase of more than 35 percent per year in the frequency of claims above US$1 million in the Commercial sector. The average claim remained relatively constant at approximately $1.4 million.
